CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

The 1ST INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

THEME: “SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT”

4 – 5th June, 2020

At Mkwawa University College of Education, Iringa Municipality (Southern Highlands), the United Republic of Tanzania

The sustainable development of any society cannot be achieved without advancement in science and technology. Both industrial and societal development require proper generation, transfer, sharing, use chain and translation of knowledge and technology. To promote this, there is a need to create a platform for exploring novel scientific and technological ideas, sharing research findings and challenges as well as collectively debate on future undertakings for application of science and technology on issues of human development nationally and globally. It is in this context that the Faculty of Science of Mkwawa University College of Education (MUCE), has a pleasure to invite practitioners, academicians, researchers, scientists, engineers, industrialists, professionals, and any other interested stakeholders to submit papers on the following sub-themes:

  1. Advances in Computational Sciences (Mathematics, Statistics, ICT, Chemistry, Physics and Biology) and Technology for Societal and Industrial Applications.
  2. Contemporary Issues in Environment, Agriculture, Food, and Nutrition.
  3. Advances in Materials Sciences and Natural Products for Sustainable Development.
  4. Science Teaching, Experimentations, and Knowledge Transfer in the Technological World.

Important Dates and Guidelines for Abstract Submission

  1. Abstracts should be submitted by 30th March, 2020 via an email attachment: fosconference@muce.ac.tz and please copy to jmmongoyo@yahoo.co.uk and apmtunya@gmail.com
  2. Full papers typed in MS-Word format (Times New Roman, font size 12) with a title, name of author(s) and affiliations, should be submitted by 20th April, 2020 via e-mails above.
  3. The submitted abstracts and full papers will be reviewed and notification for acceptance or rejection will be sent to the authors by 30st April, 2020.
  4. Some state-of-the-art papers will anonymously be peer-reviewed for publication possibly in a scientific journal after the conference.
  5. Accommodation: There are many accommodation options in Iringa City. Modern and Safe Hotels are available. The Hotels are situated in locations also friendly to find means of transport to and from Ruaha National Park, the largest National Park in Tanzania and second largest in Africa. Mkwawa University College of Education will assist the participants on hotel reservations and touristic matters in Iringa City. The participants from outside Tanzania are kindly advised to book hotels in advance in Dar es Salaam, in case they will decide to spend some days there before they arrive in Iringa City.
  6. Travel: Iringa City is located 505 kilometers away from Dar es Salaam and 250 kilometers from Dodoma, the Capital City of Tanzania. The buses operate daily from Dar es Salaam and Dodoma to Iringa at approximately USD 20 and USD15 return fares, respectively. In Dar es Salaam, you can catch the buses at the capital Ubungo Bus Terminal (UBT) and in Dodoma, you can catch the buses at Nanenane bus terminal. Iringa is also accessible by buses from all major cities in the Country. Alternatively, there are flight services available between Dar es Salaam and Iringa. The participants are highly advised to let the Organizing Committee know of their arrival and departure dates to enable the team make the necessary logistics to provide any assistance that may be needed particularly on transport and hotel matters in Iringa.
  7. Post-conference visit/tour: On request of participants there can be an excursion organized to various tourist attractions available within Iringa region. The areas selected for tour include but not limited to: Ruaha National Park which is the second largest park in Africa, Isimila Old Stone Age Historical Site, Chief Mkwawa Museum of Kalenga, and Iringa Boma.

Registration and Fees

  1. Registration for the presenters and other participants will take place at the University Campus on Thursday 4th June, 2020 from 8.30 to 9.30 am.
  2. Registration Fee Categories.
    1. Research Scholars with papers/abstracts: USD 75;
    2. Research Scholars without papers/abstracts: USD 25;
    3. Students with papers/abstracts: USD 25; and,
    4. Students without papers/abstracts: USD 15.
